Care

Cleaning and caring for Sunbrella® cushions

Sunbrella fabric is made to live outside for years. The colour is in the fibre, so you can clean firmly without the fabric fading. Here you read how to tackle stains, which products Sunbrella makes itself and how to protect the cover for next season.

Try this first on a fresh stain

  1. 1

    Brush or vacuum

Remove loose dirt, sand and pollen with a dry cloth or the vacuum cleaner.

  2. 2

    Blot, don't rub

Blot spills with a clean, dry cloth. For grease or oil: sprinkle cornstarch, leave for 10 minutes and scrape it off.

  3. 3

    Soapy water or Sunbrella Clean

Wet the stain with lukewarm water and mild soap, or spray on Sunbrella® Clean. Leave for 10 minutes and rub gently with a sponge.

  4. 4

    Rinse and air dry

Rinse well so no soap is left. Let the cover air dry; no tumble dryer, no wringing.

Avoid this

  • No scrubbing with hard brushes or abrasives.
  • No tumble dryer, no wringing. Air dry only.
  • No steamer or steam iron; ironing on a low (synthetic) setting is fine.
  • Don't leave cushions wet. Stand them on their side after rain.
  • Store dry and ventilated over winter.

Frequently asked questions

Can the cover go in the washing machine?

Yes. Open the zip, take out the inner cushion and wash at 30 °C (Natté at 40 °C), without fabric softener. No tumble dryer.

Can I use bleach?

Yes, diluted. The colour is in the fibre and does not fade from it. Rinse well afterwards and protect other fabrics nearby.

How often should I use Sunbrella Restore?

Only when water no longer beads off, usually after a few years or several thorough washes. Clean first, let dry, then Restore.
